Gundam robot

Gundam, one of the animation stars in Japan, will from now on have its own giant robot figurine.

This replica is 1.50 m tall and weighs 35 kg.

It will cost 3400 dollars.

It’s not the first time that we’ve seen replicas of Gundam appearing in several forms.

There’s already been this giant 20 meter tall statue in Tokyo.

DIY R2D2 Heineken Robot

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

It’s a sculpture but that doesn’t take anything away from it.

Here’s the R2D2 Heineken robot.

This robotics art will please all the Star Wars geeks and fans out there.

In fact, it’s not too complicated to make your own DIY version: you take a 5 liter barrel of beer or a can of beer (it can also work with a different label :-) , you add some legs and a head and hey presto!

Do you admit that the BeertooD2 looks great?

Papercraft Robots

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Botropolis has made a nice compilation of photos showing paper robots (or cardboard to be exact).

Making the robots is free, except that you have to print the model with a color printer if possible.

This type of scale model is available all over the web for collectors; you just need to search a little to unearth some gems.

Here are a few of them already – our 7 favorites: (click on the names to access the instructions)

“The Traveling Man” has been created by sculptors Brandon Oldernberg and Brad Oldham with a design and creation agency.

The metallic monster weighs 15 875 kg (or 35 000 pounds).

It took 1.35 million dollars to complete this sculpture of a robot with a guitar-shaped head.

Robot sculpture from a BMW 645CI convertible

BMW Robot

When you don’t know what to do with a BMW 645CI convertible, what better idea than to convert it into a robot!! :-)

We assure you, the metal sculptor Bruce Gray used a crashed model and not the one in the photo below.

This doesn’t stop it from being a truly luxurious robot though.

And what a wonderfully commendable idea, very “eco friendly”.

With a little imagine you can recycle metal to transform it into a real Terminator:

Wooden robot

Creating wooden robots, it had to be done :-)

We reassure you that these are just decorative and toy robots rather than real functional, mobile and autonomous robots.

Produced by Japan’s Take-G Toys,

these little gems are robotic decorations made entirely out of wood and cost between 50 and 800 US dollars.

Robot made from BMW, Porsche, VW and Audi

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Here’s an example of what can be done with recovered parts.

This robot is built out of worn parts of BMW, Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen cars.

It’s a soldier with a machine gun and an ammunition chain.

It cuts a fine figure and if it could be mobile and motorized this would be even better… as long as it doesn’t shoot anyone: 0)

Gordon Bennett Robot Works: New Yorker robotic art

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Gordon Bennett

Gordon Bennett is a New Yorker who fully devotes all his time to his passion which is also his source of income: he creates sculptures of robots.

It’s a current trend as it’s not the first of which we’ve shown you on the RobotShop blog.

Gordon’s robots are truly fantastic.

His sculptures take one month to complete and are priced from 900 to 6000 US dollars.

The robots measure between 35 cm to 1 meter in height and are made of metal, wood, plastic, glass and any material that can be salvaged.

Here are three more, just for viewing pleasure and for the development of this art:
