Robotshop is proud to announce their worldwide exclusivity partnership with Kinova. This young company from Quebec developed an impressively versatile  robotic manipulator arm perfectly suitable for robotic research as well as elder assistance. For more information about the partnership, please view the official press-release.

JACO, The Arm

JACO, Kinova’s Advanced Manipulator Arm is a very powerful and versatile robotic arm capable of reaching just short of one meter (90 cm), and lifting a payload of up-to 1.5 kg. The robotic arm is made of carbon fibre and uses harmonic-gear-motors to move silently and smoothly. The robot’s six degrees-of-freedom can rotate continually and endlessly. As a safety measure, Kinova made it impossible to get pinched in any of the joints by using a smooth joint design.

As shown in the videos above and below, the gripper patented structure provides unrivalled grip.  Just like human fingers, JACO’s fingers are soft and flexible and can adapt to many gripping situation, from firmly holding a glass of water to delicately picking up a flower.

As a final remark, it is important to note that the arm can be easily controlled by a manual 7-button, 3-axis joystick or though a USB connection by using the robot’s API. The API is directly compatible with Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux and allows the arm to be included in a wide variety of robotic projects.

With this wide set of capabilities, its impressive versatility and sleek design, we are sure this robotic manipulator is going to become part of many professional robotic projects.

Why carbon fiber? If it was plastic couldn’t it be thousands of dollars cheaper? I was shocked at the price…

  2. Carlos says:

Well, the Barret WAM arm is ~100k. The JACO has very similar capabilities and some unique features of its own for half of that.

  3. yudha says:

    Datasheet?

  4. Carlos says:

If you need additional information (besides the one available in the product description) please let us know and we will contact the manufacturer in order to obtain it.

  5. extreme!… well, that’s an easy way to put it up a notch, price tag is crazy but at at least it’s a good insight.

I need need additional information, such as [x,y,z] Accelerometer details, sampling frequency, force measurement and so on,especially the API details needed, as we need to integrate the arm into our existing system. Could you please send me a copy of the API documents and details regarding the development tools if possible.

I am looking forward to your reply
    thanks
