RUM: the underground robotic weapon

RUM

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) hopes to develop an Underground Robotic Munition (RUM) to be used for single use.

This robot would be able to go underground and dig a hole towards a potential underground target; once it reaches its destination it would explode, thus destroying its enemy target.

The RUM (Robotic Underground Munition) would therefore be used only once since it would explode at the end of its mission.

The weapon would have to be equipped with robust means of communication capable of working underground and be able to go through or around all obstacles it encountered, both natural and handmade.

Such a robot would be especially formidable up against the enemies of the American army.

The DTRA has now issued a call for tenders on the Fbo.gov site.
