Jet Hitter: a robot for playing baseball

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Baseball Robot

Researchers at Meiji University in Japan have teamed up with MR Corp to build a robot which allows you to train in baseball.

The robot holds the ball 20 cm in the air as if it was an invisible tee so the player only has to hit it.

The Jet Hitter can store 70 balls.

The designers have planned to sell to local baseball teams in Japan and also to individuals at a price of 7700 dollars.

The hiccups of Hinamitetu

Friday, March 19th, 2010

You have followed the progress here of Hinamitetu, the gymnast robot now capable of doing a somersault over a fixed bar then catching itself without falling.

It should be clear here: this remarkable performance has not been achieved without pains.

You have to suffer and persevere to reach perfection.

In the meantime Hinamitetu had a few falls that would make you smile ;-) It’s funny but you won’t laugh because what this robot can accomplish remains exceptional all the same.

It’s Friday, enjoy this moment of relaxation:

Bing ow ow ow…

Failed but without falling:

From behind… and bing again:

Ouch!

Hinamitetu performs a leap on the horizontal bar

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Unbelievable Hinamitetu gymnast robot performs an acrobatic leap on the horizontal bar.

The performance is astonishing: the robot spins around the bar like an athlete before doing a flip; then he grasps the bar like a gymnast.

Hinamitetu’s hands actually grab the rod as soon as they come into contact with it.

We can’t wait to see his next tricks on video.

Candy-05: The robot that plays golf

Robot Golfeur

Would Tiger Woods be able to finally retire, since his replacement is coming from where we least expected it? Did someone say robotics?

Candy-05 is the latest in robotic prototypes funded through NEDO (New Energy & Industrial Technology Development Organization) and developed by the Hajime Research Institute in Japan.

Candy-05 measures 1.20 m in height and its specialty is golf.

Currently, it is only able to putt, which is already a great accomplishment.

The robot detects the exact location of the ball on the ground with the cameras on its head. Then it locates the position of the hole and it putts it… into the hole.

It was originally designed as a robot for amusement parks.

The video will leave you no doubt of its talent:

The Castrol Robot Soccer free-kick shooter

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Here is the free-kick Soccer machine.

This Castrol robot shoots cannonballs at 200 km/h.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 130 km/h free-kick is nothing next to this!

The world record belongs to British soccer player David Hirst, who managed to achieve a183 km/h kick.

This machine, straight out of Castrol’s future, will be shown in June at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Hinamitetu: the Gymnast Robot

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

The Hinamitetu Japanese robot is a robot that performs gymnastics on the horizontal bar, and it’s really amazing to watch!

Soon, if the trend continues, we will earn a place in the World Robot Gymnastics Championships.

Our gymnast has improved, especially in landing:

… because in the video that circulated last December he had still room for improvement :-)
