PETMAN, An Early Version of The T100

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

PETMAN has to be the most physically capable humanoid robot in terms of flexibility, range of motion and robustness. It has been developed by Boston Dynamics, the same people who created BigDog, and is intended to tryout military equipment. Check out this video in order to see the robot, walk, move and get kicked.

Kicking a full humanoid robot that has similar capabilities to a human soldier does not seem to be the wisest thing to do. Let’s just hope PETMAN won’t take it personally and that he is simply Stayin’ Alive.

Jump LittleDog

Boston Dynamics’ LittleDog has made progress recently.

Not only was this little robotic critter able to move alone over difficult terrain, but now it does so with greater confidence: It jumps, climbs stairs, and reacts to real-time obstacles.

“Little Dog” means “petit chien” in French, and it is impressive to watch.

It is equipped with artificial intelligence and driven by learning algorithms.

The video below is not accelerated; it is truly its normal speed.

Boston Dynamics is the company making the “Big Dog” robot mule in association with DARPA in the USA.

Improved Petman by Boston Dynamics

Petman

The Petman robot by Boston Dynamics is a mobile robot prototype on two legs which moves like a human being.

Petman can walk at a speed of 6 km/h.

Look closely at how its feet and legs move in slow motion; he walks like a man.

Now imagine once this biped robot has been developed without cords, with a head and two arms on the street: the realism could be amazing.

A good idea to apply to humanoid police officers?

Here’s a new video that’s only just come out:

Boston Dynamics: Interview 32 Million Contract

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

You may surely remember the robot mule from Boston Dynamics also known as Big Dog (see the video below).

First we invite you to check out an interview conducted by Sander Olson with Marc Raibert, MIT professor and Boston Dynamics founder.

Then, great news for this company that has just won a 32 million dollar contract with DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) to develop on the Darpa LS3 (Legged Squad Support System) program, an improved version of the four legged Big Dog, capable of walking 20 miles (32 kilometers) without recharging and carrying 400 pounds (181 kg).

The LS3 is a collaborative program between DARPA and the U.S. Marine Corps.
