Improved Warranty Extended to All Robot Vacuum Cleaners

Friday, May 6th, 2011
Years ago, RobotShop started offering our Limited Lifetime Warranty on the Roomba, and as of late 2010, on the Neato XV-11 also. Considering the run-time and amount of work the average robotic vacuum cleaner goes through, it made buying with RobotShop a smart decision. Now RobotShop is extending the Limited Lifetime Warranty to all domestic robotic vacuum cleaners, and to a few other domestic robots as well.
Robot Vacuum Warranty

RobotShop Customers are VIP? Nice!

What does this mean for you? New domestic robot vacuums purchased with RobotShop will now come with the same Limited Lifetime Warranty that RobotShop Roomba and Neato XV-11 owners previously (and currently) enjoy, and the VIP service that goes along with it. On top of that, being a RobotShop customer gives you access to the Robot Hospital, so your robot(s) can still be repaired even after the warranty has expired. Overall it makes owning a domestic robot that much easier, and in the end, that’s how domestic robots should make things: easier.

RobotShop is also extending the Limited Lifetime Warranty to a few other robot pet care products, like the popular Litter Robot, and our range of automatic pet feeders and waterers.

Neato XV-11 Hacked!

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

About a week after the Open LiDAR project was announced,  the Neato XV-11 has been hacked and now its juicy LiDAR data can be used by everybody. This effectively makes the Neato XV-11 not only one of the most advanced vacuum cleaner robots in the market, but also, the cheapest LiDAR available.

We have to thank Hash79 who, based on the code by Xevel and chenglung was able to get readouts from the Neato XV-11 laser. The cash bounty will be given to Hash79 (congrats Hash!) and chenglung’s Neato XV-11 will be refunded by RobotShop.

For those of you wanting to get your hands on the code and hack the XV-11, simply visit the gitHub poject page.

The Neato XV-11 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner Gets Unboxed

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Buy the Neato Robotics XV-11 et RobotShop.com

We are lucky enough to have received one of the early Neato XV-11 engineering samples. We took this chance to take a few pictures and shoot an unboxing video in order to share with everyone this awesome experience. The only difference between this sample unit and the regular XV-11 is the former sports a nice army green colour while the latter features a more elegant silver colour.

It is important to note that the first few XV-11s went out a few days ago and that we will get new stock coming in shortly (and probably going out equally as fast).

See the video below.

And do not forget to take a look at the high-res pictures!

The new Neato XV-11 Vacuum Cleaner includes revolutionary robotics intelligence that warranties this robot cleans the entire floor, carefully avoiding furniture, walls and other objects. The Neato Robotics XV-11 is designed to meticulously clean floors on a daily basis; ensuring owners enjoy neater, healthier homes and more free time for themselves. Using its laser-based Room Positioning System (RPS) Technology, the new robot vacuum cleaner has a 360-degree view of a room, allowing it to map the most efficient cleaning path by analyzing walls, furniture, doorways and other obstacles up to four meters away. It avoids most obstacles that other robots can only detect by impact. Once it outlines the designated area, the Neato XV-11 covers the perimeter first and then methodically cleans inside it using a back-and-forth pattern to ensure complete floor coverage.

iRobot Roomba vs. Samsung Navibot

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

The iRobot Roomba has reigned supreme in the robot vacuum market for a long time. But recently, many new vaccum robots have been released by very prominent manufacturers such as Phillips, Samsung, Asus and MSI.

The new generations of robots features, in general, smart maping capabilities that allow for a methodical cleaning of a room. So far, the comparison between this upcoming robots and the well established Roomba was only theoretical and only the Neato XV-11 had a chance of  defiying the titan.

It is Samsung’s SR8855 (ak.a.  Navibot) turn to try its best and defeat the iRobots cleaning queen, the Roomba 570 series. As shown in the video below, although the Navibot have advanced navigation features, it might be more prone to get entangled in wires lying around and to attempt at eating larger objects such as socks or shirts.

MSI robot

MSI vacuum robot

Here’s a demo of the MSI vacuum robot at Computex 2010 which is currently being held in Taipei (Taiwan) from June 1 to 5, 2010.

The Taiwanese computer and component manufacturer, Micro-Star International (MSI), is coming with a new line of vacuum robots which will compete with Roomba, Samsung Navibot and Neato Robotics.

Only very few details have leaked out so far but this new vacuum should come in 3 models:

- standard M800 Smart: it can work for 110 minutes and recharges in 4 hours – R500 Slim – R1300 Security: comes with a movement sensor and wireless video camera connected to the internet.

The 3 models recharge themselves autonomously.

According to Engadget, MSI’s cleaning robots should come out in early 2011 at prices ranging from 150 to 600 dollars.

($150 for the R500 model, $450 for the M800 and $600 for the R1300.)

Is the launch of Neato Robotics delayed?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Robot Stock News says that they have tried to order the highly anticipated Neato Robotics robot vacuum cleaner but its launch seems to be delayed.

The Neato Robotics is a very promising intelligent vacuum cleaner that will directly compete with Roomba by iRobot.

RSN tried to pre-order the product but its website gave the following message: “available this summer“.

Neato was to be launched in the United States in January or February.

It looks like we will have to wait another few months. We hope that this new futuristic vacuum cleaner will be launched soon.

Domestic Robot Assistant for the household

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Robot assistant

Adopt a robot assistant into the household!

TheRobotics Research Institute at the University of Tokyo (Tokyo University’s IRT) has developed a robot that can assist you in your daily domestic tasks.

The IRT is financed by big companies like Toyota, Olympus, SEGA, Toppan, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Mitsubishi.

The prototype measures 5 ft in height, weighs 287 lbs and has 32 degrees of freedom.

Currently, the robot can clean the floor, clear the table, collect things to put them in the garbage or even put them back where they go, collect your dirty laundry and put it in the washing machine.

It is equipped with 6 wheels, a battery that lasts up to 1 hour, 5 cameras on its head, a laser and ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles.

The prototype is equipped with SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) like the long-awaited Neato.

This is still just a project for IRT because isn’t looking to market this robot for mass production for another 10 to 15 years. This everyday companion will cost around $10,000 U.S., but by then considerable progress and lower costs will surely have been reached.
