Choosing the Right Robot Vacuum Cleaner for Your Needs

This guide is intended to help you choose the right robotic vacuum cleaner for your needs, Whether you are a residential or commercial end-user. Choosing the right Robot vacuum cleaner is no different than any other purchase. There are many brands of robot vacuum cleaners, including the IRobot Roomba Series and Infinuvo CleanMate Robot Vacuums, as well as a variety of generic brands. Here are a few questions you might ask yourself:

Q1) How many rooms can be covered by a robot vacuum cleaner?

Different robots are able to cover different sized rooms. RobotShop's robot vacuum cleaner comparison chart, made available through RobotShop's support center and Learning Center Comparison Tables can best answer this question. You may also direct your attention to product specifications provided by the manufacturer.

Q2) Are these surfaces or rooms separated by stairways?

Unfortunately, Roomba and Infinuvo CleanMate vacuum cleaners are not designed to climb or descend stairways. If you wish to have a robot vacuum clean all your surfaces, you will have to plan for at least one robot for floor. Alternatively, you can always carry it from level to level, and additional docking stations are sold separately.

Q3) Do you expect your vacuum to start/end on its own or do you prefer to start it manually?

IRobot models Roomba 560, 570 and 580 are designed with onboard scheduling capability. Some of the Discovery Series models, Roomba 415 and Roomba Red are schedule-capable through a remote control sold separately. Infinuvo CleanMate vacuums do not have scheduling capabilities.

Q4) Roomba vacuum cleaners: will you need the virtual wall and/or lighthouse technology?

A Virtual wall creats a line preventing a robot from accessing an area or doorway. A lighthouse helps a robot navigate around the house. At this time virtual walls and lighthouses You may want to refer to our comparison chart for this issue. The rule of thumb suggests planning for a virtual wall at every doorway or access to off limits areas of the property. Otherwise, virtual walls can easily be moved around if you wish to avoid extra expenses. Lighthouses will contribute to your robot’s efficiency by improving room to room cleaning and navigation. Any additional units you may need should preferably be accounted for when choosing your robot vacuum, especially if you plan to have your robot vacuum run on a schedule while away. Once again refer to our robot vacuum cleaner comparison chart to determine your needs. Your building's architecture will have to be taken into account when considering this option. In doubt, refer to our Support Center or Forum, where a specialist will be happy to provide you with good support.

Q5) Is odor removal an important feature to you?

Infinuvo CleanMate robot vacuums are designed with odor removal and UV light disinfection devices. Other robotic vacuums are capable of cleaning large and fine particulate the same way as a regular vaccuum.

Q6) Do you need to wash your floors?

The newest generation of cleaning robots are also capable of washing (then drying) your floors. If this interests you, look up a Scooba floor washing robot. The Roomba and Scooba combo kit allows you to save money on your purchase.

Q7) What is your budget?

Expect to pay a minimum of $200 for an autonomous, self-recharging Robot vacuum cleaner. There are other models available, though their onboard intelligence and cleaning ability may be limited or application specific. Consider too that package deals save you money.

Q8) Did you compare all brands and models?

You will notice there are many brands and models of robotic vacuums. Within this selection, you will see standard / basic robot vacuum cleaners to a deluxe models that significantly automate cleaning. Roomba and Infinuvo CleanMate are currently the two most popular brands. It is recommended to be cautious when shopping for generic or less popular brands of robot vacuums; the price is slightly lower and they usually do have a similar look on the outside but unlike the previously mentioned models, repairs may be significantly impeded or nearly impossible.

Bear in mind that price isn’t everything. It is very important to consider the product warranty and customer service or support . In many cases, saving $20 off the retail price may cost you a longer warranty and after-warranty repairs. When shopping online, look at what other customers have to say. If you have questions about the product or the company, take a minute to write to customer support.
