Based on the QRB1114 the Phidgets 5mm IR Reflective Sensor can detect an object at 5mm. It can be used to determine the difference between black (low reflective conditions) and white (high reflective conditions). This sensor is intended to be used with a Phidgets Sensor Interface Kit - Analog input.
