The CoroWare Explorer EX-W Robot Development Platform (Windows XP) is a capable, expandable and affordable robotic platform that comes fully assembled with an application to teleoperate right out of the box. The teleoperation software allows the user to remotely control the robot and read sensors. Complete source code is included. The Explorer was created to minimize the complexity of robot development. By combining a powerful PC-class platform with a robust, object-oriented software development system, the Explorer empowers you to rapidly deploy and develop robotics solutions. The Explorer also assists the hardware developer with additional physical mounting space, ports, sensors and communication devices.
The Explorer was created to expand on the capabilities of the CoroBot and deliver a rugged indoor/outdoor robot that can withstand environmental elements such as dirt, dust, leaf debris, sand, gravel and shallow puddles. Extra ports and surface mounting space make Explorer a robust and expandable research robot. The Explorer comes complete, including the processor and code to make it work. The processor is a full PC running with Windows XP. While it is suitable for outdoor operation the motors and electronics are not sealed and thus it is not recommended to use it in the rain. The unit weighs about 30 pounds and supports a 15 pound payload capacity. The maximum travel speed is 2 feet per second.
