RobotShop App Store FAQ
What is the RobotShop App Store
The idea is similar to the Apple App Store, but here at RobotShop we sell Robot Apps for all robotic platforms, regardless of who made them or what are their operating system. We just love all robots.
At the moment, we sell mostly downloadable robot apps, but we envision a future where applications will run on the robotic cloud. This will free computation time and resources on the robots and will make a single app compatible with many different robotic platforms.
I'm a Developer, Why Should I Join?
We believe the future is digital. Tomorrow, the intelligence behind your robots will not be restricted to their physical platforms; most of the intelligence dictating their behaviour and actions will be in the cloud. This intelligence will be transferable to all robotic platforms, real or virtual. Information, knowledge, and skills will be instantly available everywhere.
We have seen tremendous transformation in technology in the recent years and we are going to see much more in the next decades. This evolution is exponential. The robot developers are the new heroes of science and technology and they know what is coming; They understand technology’s evolution. With the vision of one robot in every home and the interconnected world where all intelligent objects are connected to Internet, the robot developers understand the potential and the opportunities. Some say that there will be 50 billion connected devices by 2020. Our question to you is: how many of those do you think will be robots?
Once robots are connected to the Internet, what is the next logical step? The next step is the Web for Robots where Robot apps will become a multi-billion dollar industry. Developers that will have started to experiment early, sell and build their Brand will have a huge advantage.
How much money will I make?
RobotShop retains 25% of all transactions. You as a developer will receive 75% on every app sold.
Who can participate?
Behold the three participant types:
The Developer: You belong to a new generation of heroes capable of programming robot apps that increase the robots' abilities, intelligence, usefulness, and sometimes silliness. You do it for yourself, and for others in the intent of making money (there is nothing wrong about making money, we like money too). You might be a robotic geek, a seasoned professional, a company or corporation, or a robot in disguise.
The Manufacturer: You are an innovative and open minded manufacturer of robots and you are interested in improving your customers' experience by offering add-ons 'à la carte' and value added services. You are also interested in making money by selling the apps and robots.
The Robot Owner: You are a tech savvy pioneer paving the way of the future of civilization. You want your robots to be useful and make your life easier; you want them to learn new tricks 'matrix-style'. By downloading a new robot app or connecting your robots to the cloud, you can start reaping the benefits.
Where do I start?
For the apps that will be downloadable and that robot owners will install on their robots or on a computers, you can start to develop right now. You can suggest your robot app via the Support Center, under the App Store department.
We strongly recommend you read about FlowBotics Studio, the perfect tool to create robot apps. You will be soon able to submit and upload your robot apps directly from FlowBotics. Stay tuned.Submit your Robot App here
Submit a Robot App
Downloadable App can be made in any kind of languages or framework for any kind of robots or robotic platforms. Just go crazy and impress us.
In order to submit a downloadable app to the app store, please provide the following information:
- A zip archive containing all the required files, including manuals and documentation for your app to run.
- A list of the required hardware for your app to run including product codes and link to a reliable source.
- App screenshots or other images (jpeg).
- At least a YouTube video link (this is optional but will definitely help your app sell better).
A support link or email address that customers can use to get support for their apps.
If it is the first time you submit an app, please provide us with this information as well:
- Full developer name and contact information
Company Name (if applicable)
Please note that you may only submit apps that you created or legally own.
We are currently working on the infrastructure that will run and execute the robot apps in the Cloud. This is not an easy task, so please be patient. Make sure also to visit the MyRobots.com Beta web site to understand more about the Robotic Cloud and start experimenting. More information will come on this so make sure you register to the Newsletter or follow us on Twitter to stay in touch.Submit your Robot App here
What is Cloud Robotics?
Cloud Robotics is the application of the cloud computing concept to robots. This means using the Internet to augment the robots capabilities by off-loading computation and providing services on demand.
Being connected to the cloud also helps robots to collaborate with other machines, smart objects and humans. Through this collaboration, robots transcend their physical limitations and become more useful and capable since they can delegate parts of their tasks to more suitable parties.
By combining the increased communication capabilities to the ability and flexibility of running and storing part of their intelligence (i.e. software, behaviours and apps) in the Cloud, smart objects and robots become augmented and constitute a new and revolutionary concept and the future of robotic intelligence: Cloud Robotics.
Connect your Robots!
See the Get Started section of MyRobots to get your robots connected right away.
MyRobots.com aims to connect all robots and intelligent devices to the Internet. MyRobots augment their capabilities so they can do more, enabling them to be remotely monitored and controlled. We strive to make cloud robotics a reality accessible to everyone and everything.
You can think of MyRobots as a social network for robots and smart objects (i.e. Facebook for robots). In the same way humans benefit from socializing, collaborating and sharing, robots can benefit from those interactions too by sharing their sensor information giving insight on their perspective of their current state.MyRobots.com
