  • Pololu 12V, 100:1 Gear Motor w/Encoder
Decent motor, pay attention to encoder
    Review by Gump
It's a powerful motor. Operation is smooth. Excellent for my application. However, be sure not to touch the encoder during operation, as it will stall the motor immediately. Even though the following actually applies to the related hub, it is a shame that imperial sizes are used for mounting something onto the hub.

  • 7.2VDC 291RPM 11oz-in GHM-03 Spur Gear Head Motor (w/ Rear Shaft)
    Ignore previous review.
    Review by Sasan
    I meant to review GHM-13 not GHM-03.

The GHM-03 are not good for Rover in Tanking situations. Recommend GHM-13 for Rover over what is normally shipped with Rover.

Tamiya offers a variety of motors where the shaft protrudes on both sides, all for less than $20. There is usually a choice of gear ratio. They work well off two or three AA batteries

Differential drive is a good choice and can be used indoors and outdoors. You can use casters on the rear. The speeds depends on the DC gear motors you choose. It can turn very quickly.
