Post subject: Gearbox from C to B
Hi,

what would be the best way to convert the DFRobotShop to setup A on the Tamya gearbox?

Thanks
Seb

The gearbox itself can be easily reassembled using the components from the Tamiya Twin Motor Gearbox. However, should you reuse the same setup, the tracks would be too tight, so there need to be some modifications. We have not done that ourselves, but can offer some suggestions (after you have reassembled the motor in config A):
- Use the smaller drive sprocket instead of the larger one
- Use different lengths of track
- Use different idler wheels in different places

We found an easy one to do is: motor in configuration A, assemble the long track plus two medium length tracks (the two short track lengths not used), and replace the large drive sprocket with the smaller one. What's the advantage? The rover is significantly faster, and for the most part still loves to climb. Note that we add the two yellow cylinders included with the gears (otherwise unused) to the motor shaft to help secure it.

Whatever configuration you try, just ensure there is not too much tension on the drive shaft. We would certainly like to see other configurations, but we have a lot in the works for new models and new versions set to be released soon.

Here's how I mount my gearbox on config B

I'm controlling it with a TX and RX, UBEC 5v and a 11.1v lipo.

I'm using the full length track.

Very cool and creative design - not too much tension on the tracks? You're using an R/C receiver?

It even has less tension than the original setup.

Yes, I'm using an R/C Receiver from an helicopter.

I just drilled an extra set of holes in the brackets and moved the front wheels back.
I assembled the gearbox in A config and tensioned the track while I marked the axle position on the bracket, then drilled a new hole.

On the test track I've got for line following, it reduced the lap time from 49 seconds to 20 seconds :)
