I need to assemble a small motorized Z-axis stage to hold a load that is roughly 1 lb and needs a travel distance of at least 5-6cm and take up an area of preferably 4" x 4" or less, but some overlap is ok. So far all I have been able to find are very high-end, high-resolution motorized lab jacks from Thorlabs that are outside of my budget range (once you include the controller and everything). The budget for this is roughly $1000 or less. It only needs a resolution of ~0.1mm or so. I also want to control the motor controller using a LabVIEW program eventually so perhaps the controller can be a Phidgets since I know they have a LabVIEW library already.
I'm wondering if anyone can suggest an alternative solution perhaps using products available on Robotshop. It seems like a simple problem, I just need to be able to move an object (a small camera) up and down remotely using a small motorized system.
Thank you for your input, and let me know if you require any additional info.
