LEGO Linear Actuator
Posted on July 27th, 2008 in Hobbyist
LEGO has recently come out with a new linear actuator piece as part of their new Power Function sets. The new actuators have a movement range of 5 studs, or about 1.6 in (4cm), which correspond to 26 full revolutions of the input shaft. The actuators also have a built in clutch mechanism to prevent damage from over-extension. Klocki has more pictures of the actuators. This may be a useful alternative to much more expensive linear actuators, like the ones from Firgelli.

Nice design of linear actuator. And it’s good that it can be use as an alternative to other actuator that is too much expensive.

Goofy,
The actuators appear in LEGO sets Excavator 8294 and Telescopic Handler 8295. If you just want the actuator, looks like you can buy them off of BrickLink.

$8-15 each, depending on where you live. Much cheaper in Europe for some reason.

I found the LA at Lego education. They sell it with two mounting components.

Again, they want $15 for the kit. They are a good resource for technic stuff, prices are in line with the Lego shop, just an unusual offering.
