Lynxmotion SES-V1 AL5D PLTW Robotic Arm (5 DoF) Kit is a package made specifically for PLTW schools. It includes a complete AL5D robotic arm, along with a medium duty wrist rotate upgrade, SSC-32U servo controller board and a USB cable. The SSC-32U board means no more USB-to-serial adapter and no more 9V battery.
The Lynxmotion AL5D 4 Degrees of Freedom Robotic Arm delivers fast, accurate, and repeatable movement. Lynxmotion designed an affordable system based on a time tested, rock solid design that will last and last. Everything needed to assemble and operate the robot is included in the kit, along with a medium duty wrist rotate, USB cable, extra servo cable and FlowArm PLTW software. The aluminum robotic arm is made using Lynxmotion's Servo Erector Set components for the ultimate flexibility and expandability. The kit consists of black anodized aluminum brackets, aluminum tubing and hubs, custom injection molded components, and precision laser-cut Lexan components.
Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is the nation's leading science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) solution and is used in over 5,000 schools across the U.S. The PLTW Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) curriculum includes creating an assembly line and use of the Lynxmotion AL5D arm. This software was created so students would have full control of the arm without having to spend significant time programming, and integrate it easily into a larger manufacturing / assembly system.
FlowArm PLTW (Download) has a powerful pattern sequencer component (normally found only in the full version of FlowBotics Studio) that is used to create reusable patterns within minutes or hours, instead of days or weeks. The sequencer also allows you to vary the speed of playback of a routine.
the arm itself is good and pretty easy to put together. The instructions could definitely be much better, but the hardware it comes with is horrible, be prepared to buy your own nuts and bolts.

Not to difficult to build, easy interface with software. If you need more than one I would suggest getting the pre-built ones.

Okay arm, could improve instruction manual
The arm is not too hard to assemble. It would be nice if the software would connect automatically to all laptops and that technical support could have a number to call or video feature. Also, some parts of the instruction manual assumed certain things that they would expect you to know so I think it could be a bit more detailed. Overall, once you get the hang of it the arm becomes easier to deal with.

What a fantastic introduction to robotics
Bought as an introduction to robotics, with the intention later on of integrating it with a hexapod. Great kit. took a little while to get used to the assembly methods for this style of construction but overall it was a very positive experience. Online assembly instructions were quite good, but it involved having several of the guides open simultaneously. I would certainly recommend it as an introduction. Flowarm is a gem also, easy to use and works well with the arm.
If you are not satisfied for whatever reason with a Product you bought on the Site, it is possible to return it for refund within 30 days from the date you received it unless otherwise indicated in the Product listing. You must first advise the Vendor associated with your order in your account to obtain a return authorization (‘’RA’’) number before returning a Product. (‘’RA’’) numbers are valid for 30 days, within which time the returned Products should be received by the Vendor. No returns will be accepted without having previously obtained an (‘’RA’’) number. The Product must then be returned in its original packaging (in perfect condition for resale) with its receipt and your (‘’RA’’) number. Reimbursement will be denied for any Products which do not conform to the above mentioned conditions.
Build-it-yourself Robot Parts are not refundable once assembled. Robots & Kits requiring assembly or soldering are also not refundable once assembled, soldered or modified in any way. All sales of robotic software and apps are final and cannot be refunded or exchanged. Returns are not accepted on special orders and clearance items except when they are found defective, in which case the Product may be repaired or replaced at the Vendor’s discretion. 20% Restocking fees may apply if you are returning a large quantity of the same Product that was ordered specifically for you from the manufacturer.
Please note that all items will be reimbursed within 7 to 14 days of receiving the Product (shipping fees excluded). You must also cover the cost of returning the Product. Shipping fees will only be refunded if the return is a result of a shipping error on our part. Cleaning fees of USD 100 may also be charged if a domestic robot is returned and has not been properly cleaned.
