The Pololu Step-Down Voltage Regulator 3.3V 3.7A D30V30F3 is a synchronous buck voltage regulator that efficiently produces lower output voltages from higher input voltages up to 45 V. These regulators are part of the D30V3x series, which are more efficient than linear voltage regulators, particularly when there is a significant difference between the input and output voltages. The regulators are capable of supporting continuous output currents that vary with the input and output voltages.
The D30V30Fx family offers fixed output voltages from 3 V to 15 V, while the adjustable versions, namely the D30V30MAx and D30V33MAx, allow for precise output voltage settings via an 11-turn potentiometer. Some models also feature an adjustable low-voltage cutoff. The D30V30MAx is more compact due to its double-sided assembly, whereas the D30V33MAx can handle slightly higher currents due to its larger surface area and includes larger through-holes for terminal blocks.
These regulators are equipped with several protective features, including reverse voltage protection up to 40 V, input under-voltage lockout, over-current protection, short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown to prevent overheating. Additionally, a soft-start feature limits inrush current and ensures a gradual increase in output voltage upon startup.
The D30V30F3 model specifically provides a fixed 3 V output voltage with 4% accuracy and can typically support a maximum continuous output current between 3 A and 4.5 A. It boasts a high efficiency rate, which varies depending on the input voltage, output voltage, and load. The regulator also features a very low dropout voltage, a switching frequency of approximately 700 kHz under heavy loads, and a power-save mode that enhances light load efficiency by reducing the switching frequency. The low quiescent current, enable input with precise cutoff threshold, "power good" output, and frequency spread spectrum operation are additional characteristics that contribute to the regulators performance.
The regulator includes six connections: power good (PG), enable (EN), input voltage (VIN), output voltage (VOUT), and two ground (GND) connections. The "power good" indicator is an open-drain output that signals when the output voltage is outside the nominal range, and the regulator can be put into a low-power state through the EN pin. The input voltage powers the regulator, and the regulated output voltage is provided at VOUT.
The compact size of the regulator and the arrangement of the six connection through-holes on a 0.1" grid make it compatible with various prototyping arrangements. The package includes a straight male header strip and a right-angle male header strip for ease of connection.
