I can also make custom sizes and designs.
These mechanical eyerigs were originally started a prototype concept for a project.
I have now made these available for you to purchase, and they are selling.
The Rigs come ready to go, and all that is needed is a pair of half round eyeball and servos.

Mechanical eye mechs designed for a 20mm eyeball (half rounds).
some are just eyelid kits and some are full eyeball control with integrated gimbals.

Originally designed for a client who requested a large set of animatronic mechanical eyes. The mechanical eye unit features independent eyelid movements, 2 degrees of movement in both eyes (independently) and also 4 servo control outputs for the eyebrows. 12 Standard size Hitec servos can be fitted. The HS-3xx, 4xx, 5xx, 6xx, 54xx, 56xx, and 59xx servos are verified to fit. Note that servos from other manufacturers are not guaranteed (nor likely) to fit if they do not fit the envelopes of non-standard sizes. Please check your inferia servo dimensions before placing an order: :40.6x19.8x37.8mm(1.59x0.77x1.48in) The original design had a casing that the unit fits into. if you decide you wanted to buy this unit you will have to acquire a casing for it.

The realism of the eye itself is uncanny! Those can’t be cheap… Looking forward to seeing the fluid motion.

The first eye is the cheap on. they are hollow half rounds and are only a few $'s for the pair.
The second ones are full Hemisphere half glass eyes. they are about $20 a pair.

The glass ones will not fit the gimbal designs as the backs of the eyes are solid and would conflict with the ball joint, where as the hollow ones fit over the joint.

Ill see if i can get some time and money to print off a full mech and load it with servos for a demo… :wink:

Jonny,

This setup is incredibly wonderful!

Instead of Yoda, and for the cost of only a few dozen more servos, you could retrofit one of your animatronic owls or hawks with the ability to regurgitate half digested worms into the beaks of their young.

Or, have you considered working with Eric Nantel? You two could use this as a gimbal mount for a stereovision pair of GoPro cameras mounted on one of his large multicopters creating swarms of surveillance drones. Think of the government contracts waiting out there!

Seriously, your creativity definitely stretches the minds of we lesser mortals. Thanks for sharing.

Myself and Eric collaborate on projects most of the time… although im not sure stereo vision is compatible or even possible with fish-eye lens’s but i like the idea of camera mounted eyes. :wink:

Really enjoying seeing your progress. Perhaps plan to install a microphone where his ears would be (to detect the direction of sounds), and a speaker inside the mouth? Micro cameras for eyes would be amazing too of course.

Meanwhile here is a new mech in conception.

I have been making some improvements to the eye socket itself. Starting with the 20mm…
Since the rig is designed to hold a 20mm eye 'leaving enough room between the eye and the actual eyeball, along with the other mechanical tolerances like the eyelid linkage system and connections to the rigs side structure, i have tightened all these tolerances up. meaning there is less material used in manufacture… (cheaper)
and also that when being used there is not so much interference from the eyelid rotations, meaning there is less parts sticking out and coursing un-wanted movements.
The linkage areas are more integrated as shown

also here is a full rig im working on for a medium to large size desktop animatronic dragon.
the eye balls are 78mm apart and features all eye movements and lids from only three servos.

not really that complex as the control is quite simple…
With a monocular vision rig is very easy and simple to control both eyes using minimum linkages.
RED controls the Eyes Up/Down movements
BLUE controls the Eye Lids
GREEN controls the Eyes Left and right movements

Been rather busy with another project for a big name client so excuse my lack of forum time. will post details on that as soon as i can.
Anyway, i just thought id add to this thread with another eye rig im working on for someone.
