Introduction

Hello all you LMRians!

It's been 7 or 8 years since I posted on this site, as I had to pack up robotics in 2011. I have however visited the site periodically, and certainly have noticed some changes. Especially this new site design, which I'm now trying to grasp.

I did take up UAV's in 2013 for a while, but have had a renewed interest in robotics over the last 18 months or so, and have built a few simple robots to entertain my grandchildren.

I feel that I can now share these with you, as some of you may also find them entertaining.

This is an animatronic robotic head I built about a year ago, My thanks go to e-labtronics and Marshall Tearle for the inspiration.

My Robotic head.

He is made from scrap from my garage, mainly .9mm and 1.2mm aluminium sheet, with support brackets using 2mm aluminium. All cut manually using hacksaw and dremel. The cheek bones were challenging to get shape and angles right. Teeth were donated by a neighbour when he got a new set! Eyes are table tennis balls.

His brains are 2 x 28 pin picaxe project boards in parallel, and uses hobby servos for movement. The voice is produced using a Picaxe SPE035 sound board, and the animatronics for the mouth uses an Audio Servo Controller from audioservocontroller.com.

Video of head.  Music is "See What I've Become" by Zac Hemsey http://www.zackhemsey.com/ Dialogue is mainly an edited version of the speech given by Michael Rennie in the film "The Day The Earth Stood Still" 1951 - Twentieth Century Fox. Some verbals are taken from the speech by Jor-El to Superman in the 1978 film "Superman The Movie". Quite a few alterations have been made to the wording of both.

Last year I put a mask on it for Halloween to entertain my grandchildren. A bit silly but they found it scary.
