LMR at World Maker Faire 2016

Above: Plenty of visitors all weekend long came by the LMR booth to check out our robots.

The robots and their makers are all safely home, and it is time to tell the tale of World Maker Faire 2016. Francisco put together a nice video that give you a feel for it.

Despite rainy weather on Friday, which made setup a bit soggy, the rain pretty much held off all Saturday and Sunday.

Just Beginning..

First post here, but I just wanted to share what I'm doing.

My history: casual programmer since 20 (basic back then, COBOL, JCL, then some VB5/6 and DOS scripting, InstallShield, WIL and some C), IT manager and programmer back in the mid-late 90's. Just getting back into programming. One thing I've never been is an engineer. Though I was an aircraft mechanic in the AF, electricity is all new to me (beyond sticking a plug in a wall). I look to upgrade my knowledge there. That's why I turned to Makeblock for my first robots.

Speaker power

We got a big upgrade to Annabelle's sound with the addition of

Clamped to heavy dowel and bolted to this sturdy as heck frame

BOSS AUDIO MCBK420B Black 600 watt Motorcycle/ATV Sound System

Sound from audio jack, single dial can get super loud. The previous speakers were muffled as well, so having them at floor level helps a great deal. Battery power now goes a long way.

Exosuit power options

Hey all
I am currently working on an exoskeleton and I am still deciding what type of actuation to use (I have already built a frame for my arm) the type of actuators I am considering are either air muscles, linear actuators (homemade) or another type of electric actuator that you guys suggest. What are you guys thoughts on this? The type of power system will depend on what actuator I end up using.

PS. I'm not planning on spending a whole lot of money on this project.

New robot being planned

Hi,

It's been a long time. However, I'm finally getting out of my house and moving into a motorhome.

However, until I can convince my girlfriend to join me, I will be lonely in the driver's seat. So I'm planning on making a droid head and put it on top of an old chassis that I found that is tall enough. I want to put this robot in the passenger seat and make comments about the other drivers. And perhaps my driving. :)

Quadruped Sneak Peak!

In the Grapes of Wrath, there was a turtle that had a lot of symbolism, and in English class, you can basically do anything for the final project. So I thought, what the heck, I'll just play my strengths! Below is a rough CAD using 3d-printed parts and MG996R servos. Electronics are not really shown, shell is not missing (like there's a CAD of a salad bowl out there), and the head has been remodified to have a more "turtle" look. Photos of the final product coming soon.

Elder care Robot

Very interested in elder care

Would love to start a project

Involving robots for the elderly.

Has anyone here started a project like this ? or does

Anyone have any input?

Schreibotics will be my website soon enough!!!

Dear: LMR

Hello guys this is me Noah again. You should know I have had plenty of expereince with HTML5 and CSS for many years now and I have finally put those skills together to make a website. Of course I have no idea if I am going to publish it of course because I am not finished coding it, I am more than half way done with coding it, and I am not sure if I could afford a website. Thank you guys and wish me good luck!!!

LCD display for Arduino how hard can it be ?

Yeah so i thought i would have a play with an LCD display.

How hard can it be I foolishly thought.

in my ignorance I assumed they were all pretty much the same and spoke the same language.

My problem came when I wanted to talk with it on the UNO.

All the libraries are different.

Not being a good programer I tend to womble a bit of code from here and there,

and go off and do the fun stuff of building it,

and eventually get it to do what I want.

This becomes a bit of problem when the sketches are

made for different hardware.

The Dangers of LED Constant-Current Boost Drivers - Hazardous to your Arduino!

Does this picture look familiar to anyone?   In particular, the raised bump of melted plastic on what used to be the voltage regulator for the Mega2650?  I hope not too many!

Trinity robot chassis upgrade!!!

Dear: LMR

Just to let you know I have recently built a new chassis for my trinity firefighting robot. The purpose of me building a new chassis was that the old chassis was too diffucult to use and debug. FIrst of all it was a self ballancer robot which made it diffucult to control. Second of all it was so tiny it was diffucult to debug the wiring. Any opinions on the new chassis? Thank you.

From: Noah

PS: I used the same electronics from the old robot to the new robot including motors. Enjoy!!!

See you at Arduino Day 2016 at London

Hi there!

Maybe you know next Saturday 2nd of April is the Arduino Day. It's a day to celebrate the Arduino movement and all the good things we enjoy with Arduino.

An even cheaper Wi-Fi board

For a few cents more than the ESP12F you get it with a programmer daughter board, a RGB led, a button and a photoresistor.
This is ideal for small robot with networking abilities.
Can be programmed with Arduino IDE as a NodeMCU v1.0 .

Curt the Creeper Update: Adding Voice Interactivity and Sound; 4 bar linkage design

Update:
--------------

I spent the past few weeks researching voice interactivity and sound effect playback (mainly through Google search), and designing a 4 bar linkage to figure out what powertrain I need to drive the feet movement.  I thought others might benefit from info about my work so I'm posting it here.  This project will likely move at a fairly slow pace mainly due to current budget constraints.
