BEAM Robotics: A Lost Art

Hello again, everyone! Long time no see! So I've recently realized that I have a growing love for BEAM robotics and a great sadness that technology has marched on without it. I was just wondering about the following: 1. Did BEAM robotics fall out of fashion because (for many) it's much easier to program a microcontroller/computer than to build and debug analog circuits? I feel the same, but with neuromorphic chips on the rise, BEAM robotics and neuromorphic chips are still things I'd like to experiment with in the future. 2.

The Technology Showcase London 2016 with Makeblock

Imagine 30 of the most trendy tech companies show you their new toys and gadgets and let you play with them before buy. That´s The Technology Showcase at Westfield in London four days this October, and more than 500,000 visitors on previous technology events.

The Technology Showcase Westfiled London 2016

I was invited by Makeblock to meet them, see their new robots and have some good time.

If you're still learning and experimenting with hobby robots and recycling parts to make other robots and things that's fine and you should continue doing that.

Humanoid concept Arduino

This concept to make a humanoid head, that speaks like a human, chooses phrases randomly. As (it) speaks , it moves head, eyeballs and eyebrows randomly in an emulation of a human. This can be useful for lonely people who cannot have a pet at home.

This is the basic idea..Later it is possible to develope it further to talk longer durations, and even tell short stories stored on an SD card.

Innovation Contest by Boca Bearings

Boca Bearings is holding a contest where you can submit a video of your robot or mechanical device that uses bearings. You can win a 3D Printer or a GoPro camera. The grand prize is $5,000. For rules and entries, check out http://www.bocabearings.com/innovation-contest/.

New tutorial on how to make an Arduino robot

I posted this on the Facebook page, but thought I'd post it here as well.

I just finished writing an in-depth tutorial on how to make an Arduino-based robot. It's targeted towards beginners and should help someone completely new to robotics to build their first robot, but anyone making a robot with an Arduino will find it useful. Here's picture of the robot I make in the tutorial:

Robot related groups around St Louis MO

Howdy,

Recently I found out that there are a number of LMR members really close to where I'm at. These are the public robotics related groups around St Louis MO USA. (I'm not including the school based groups -like FIRST- as those are not truly open to the public.)

Yantra 2.0 Robotics Competition

It was the biggest in our small history, and will definitely be a proud one to cherish. The Yantra 2.0 Robotics Compeition was held on October 1st, under the Covered Hall of our national stadium, the Dasarath Rangashala. It was organized by Karkhana, a company that's striving towards expanding the boundaries of innovation in Nepal, and Robotics Association of Nepal, the biggest national robots governing body out here. E-sewa were the event sponsors of the competition.

LMRians, here are a few glimpses of the competition. :-)

Robot Rookie

I am new to everything about this site, pure ambition brought me here. Without trying to sound like a cliche its been a dream of mine to create a functioning robot. I have no prior experience in this field, I do think with practice I'll be able to build the skeletal structure but its the coding that worries me, if any one has any re-assuring advice or steps to take to help me work this out, i would be very apprieciative. As i am very new i will start at the very begining. I plan to make the 'Start here' robot then on to the robot arm.
