Avoiding objects

This is my first day here on LMR and I think it's a great site for learning new stuff for my robot.

Currently I'm working on my very first (own) robot.

What I have now is a cybot based platform (2 motors and a front wheel).

De motors are driven by a L298N driver.

That driver is connected to an Arduino board.

My next challenge is avoiding objects and I'm not quite sure what kind of sensors I would like to use.

First we have normal switches mounted on the front sides. (I rather not use this)

Obstacle avoider. Other behaviours planned.

Dual Ultrasonic sensor

For my next "top secret" robot project I need 2 ultrasonic sensors. Playing around with the Maxbotix MaxSonar EZ1, which perfectly matches in size for this task, I stumbled across the following problem.

Ultrasonic sensors and pets

Hey all. I'm thinking about building my first robot. Was hoping to build some kind of wheeled monstrosity with lots of sensors, but I beginning to think using ultrasonic sensors might not be a good idea with a cat in the apartment. Does anyone know how pets react to the ultrasonic signals?

Robust Autonomous Robot Localization Using Interval Analysis

i'm gonna do my project on autonomous robot.... and i got a ieee abstract.....

here goes....

Abstract :

Has anyone heard of this Ultrasonic Sensor?

The model is SP-40-38F. You can find it here: http://www.cutedigi.com/product_info.php?cPath=278_295&products_id=4282&osCsid=d133de8082a4556d02f27cdf248ae912

I would like to buy a few but after looking at the site, I am a little hesitant to send them any money.

Zen Master

I'm building a robot with many different voltages here.

I have managed to avoid voltage regulation by cheating, I run the motors that are rated for 4.5 volts at 6 volts from a RC NiCd battery, and I use an RC Electronic Speed Controller that can give 5 volts to the RC receiver, the wireless camera and the Picaxe. I feared that this might be a problem and turned to the all knowing LMR forums for help. And help I got...

IR Homing Beacon?

I'm looking to build an Beacon, IR or otherwise, that a robot can see and simply drive to. Pretty much like a docking station for the robot to be recharged or a robot that follows you. (unless that's something different...)

I did a few searches, but I've only come up with robots that use a beacon and not how to build the circuit and write the code.

Any help?

Edit: 8.31.09

I don't know if this helps, but I'm pretty much looking to build what CtC did here: https://www.robotshop.com/letsmakerobots/node/6499

ultrasonic sensors > differential steering

Hi there,

I'm a total no nothing about robotics person.

I'm trying to connect the differential steering system of an old electric wheelchair to between 4 and 6 ultrasonic sensors.

can anyone help me, is a there a kit i could obtain? maybe something i could adapt?

thanks everyone!

how do i use the srf005??

jubiii!!!   i finally got my robot working but i don't know how i use the srf05/srf005....

i connected it like the drawing i found from "frits1"so that the mini-LED was flashing...   but how do i USE it???

you know...   how can i tell it to do something when the disance is ....cm and then do something else when the distace is ..........cm??

plz tell me!

also! here is a test of the robot !
