The Sherline CNC-Ready 2-Axis X/Y Machine Slide 13" (Metric) is an industrial-grade component derived from the X/Y base of the Sherline miniature milling machine. This machine slide facilitates precise movement along the X-axis and Y-axis, with the Y-axis enabling in-and-out table movement and the X-axis allowing side-to-side travel. When mounted vertically, the X-axis remains the same, while the vertical movement is referred to as the Z-axis. Constructed from 6061-T6 aluminum, the slide is finished with a durable black anodized coating, ensuring longevity and resistance to wear.
This CNC-ready machine slide is available with a 13-inch table length and features a metric leadscrew. The leadscrews are precision rolled from steel, providing reliable performance, and are positioned beneath the table to prevent interference from debris. The design includes adjustable backlash for the leadscrews, and the dovetailed tables and saddles are equipped with adjustable gibs to eliminate play, ensuring smooth and accurate operation. The handwheels are graduated in 0.01 mm increments, facilitating precise adjustments.
The slide is equipped with mounts for NEMA 23 stepper motors, making it ready for CNC applications. It offers versatile mounting options, with provisions for securing from the bottom using four 1/4-20 holes on 2-inch centers, or from the top using four angle clamps that fit into the base's perimeter groove. The machine slide can support a weight capacity of approximately 10 lbs, depending on the weight's distribution and table length.
Under heavy and continuous use, the slide's dovetail area may exhibit wear on the anodized coating after approximately 2080 hours, although functionality remains intact. Regular lubrication with light oil is recommended to extend the lifespan of the dovetail and screw components. The leadscrews feature a hardened rolled thread, and the backlash nuts, made of brass, are designed to be the wear component, with adjustability to compensate for wear over time.
Note: Do not use WD40 as a lubricant on these slides, as it will remove the anodized coating.
