The AndyMark Flyer Overdrive Gearbox, Falcon 500 Input, 2:50:1 / 1:2.50 represents a significant advancement in gearbox technology for FRC applications. This innovative gearbox is designed to function both as an overdrive and an underdrive system, allowing the output shaft to spin faster or slower than the input shaft, respectively. This dual functionality is achieved through a single, versatile gearbox, providing users with the flexibility to choose between two gear ratios without the need for additional purchases.
The gearbox features a short 1/2 inch hex output shaft that extends approximately 2 inches from either face of the gearbox. Users have the option to replace this with any Toughbox output shaft, thanks to the 1.125 inch OD bearings at both the front and rear. This design allows for the installation of a pass-through shaft of any desired length without requiring machining, making it ideal for applications such as roller intakes when combined with compatible wheels.
Mounting the gearbox is straightforward, as its "wings" are engineered to fit over any 1 inch wide extrusion, such as Peanut or Box Tube, facilitating easy attachment to a robot's frame. The gearbox offers three hardware options for input: CIM/NEO, Falcon, and Sport Gearbox. The CIM/NEO and Falcon options are particularly suited for flywheel shooters, providing a bearing-supported output shaft optimized for absorbing shock loads. The Sport Gearbox option offers an additional stage of reduction and secure mounting, making it suitable for mechanisms like climbers.
For those who wish to customize further, a no gears option is available, allowing users to supply their own gears to achieve a specific ratio not currently offered. The gearbox can accommodate any two 20DP, 1/2 inch wide, 1/2 inch hex bore gears totaling 70 teeth. Additionally, the empty shell can serve as a mounting point for an extended shaft, enabling a symmetrical setup.
