The AndyMark Flyer Overdrive Gearbox, Sport Gearbox Input, 2.89:1 / 1:2.89 is an innovative gearbox designed for versatility in competitive robotics applications. It is uniquely engineered to function both as an overdrive and underdrive gearbox, allowing users to adjust the output shaft speed relative to the input. This dual functionality is facilitated by the inclusion of gears with a 1/2 inch hex bore, enabling easy configuration changes without additional purchases.
The gearbox features a short 1/2 inch hex output shaft that extends approximately 2 inches from either face, with the option to replace it with any Toughbox output shaft. The design accommodates a pass-through shaft setup by replacing the rear bearing with another 1/2 inch hex bearing, allowing for custom shaft lengths without machining. This adaptability makes it suitable for various applications, such as roller intakes when combined with compatible wheels.
Mounting the gearbox is straightforward due to its "wing" design, which fits over any 1 inch wide extrusion, such as Peanut or Box Tube, facilitating easy integration into a robot's frame. The gearbox offers three hardware input options: CIM/NEO, Falcon, and Sport Gearbox. The CIM/NEO and Falcon options are ideal for flywheel shooters, providing a bearing-supported output shaft optimized for absorbing shock loads. The Sport Gearbox option offers an additional reduction stage and secure mounting, making it suitable for mechanisms like climbers.
For those seeking customization, the gearbox is available without gears, allowing users to supply their own 20DP, 1/2 inch wide, 1/2 inch hex bore gears totaling 70 teeth. This flexibility supports a wide range of gear ratios and configurations, including using the gearbox shell as a mounting point for extended shafts.
Note: Ensure proper support and retention of shafts to prevent mechanical failure during operation.
