Provides three extra Ethernet ports for expansion
The Blue Robotics 5-Port Ethernet Switch (Compatible w/ BlueROV2, BlueBoat) provides enhanced expandability for various vehicle systems. It mounts directly on the Fathom-X Tether Interface Board and can also function independently. Developed in collaboration with BotBlox, this switch is user-friendly, requires no configuration, and is dependable under diverse conditions.
This Ethernet switch integrates seamlessly with the BlueROV2 and BlueBoat, offering three additional Ethernet ports for accessory connections. Ethernet networks facilitate high-speed connections between computers, forming the backbone of the internet. On the BlueROV2, an Ethernet network connects the surface computer to the ROV’s onboard computer, transmitting telemetry data and video. The networks extra bandwidth can support additional devices such as sonars, IP cameras, and sensors.
Ethernet allows multiple devices to connect to the same network, but an Ethernet switch is necessary to route data between connections. This 5-port switch connects to the existing Fathom-X and Raspberry Pi computer in the ROV, leaving three ports available for expansion. Potential uses for these additional ports include adding a multibeam imaging sonar, a dedicated computer for vision processing, or a high-end IP camera.
Designed to complement the Fathom-X board, the switch shares the same dimensions and mounting holes, allowing it to stack on top. Two RJ45 port connections facilitate quick connections to the Fathom-X and Raspberry Pi, while the remaining connections are accessible via JST-GH connectors adhering to the Blue Robotics Connector Standard. The board supports a wide voltage input up to 6V and consumes minimal power. Indicator lights display activity on each port.
An RJ45 to JST-GH adapter board is included for easy connection during testing, though solder splicing one of the included JST-GH cables to the device is recommended for long-term integration on an ROV, as a standard RJ45 connector does not fit through a cable penetrator hole.
Note: Ensure proper handling and installation to avoid potential electrical hazards.
