The Pololu 6V 3.3A Step-Down Voltage Regulator D30V30F6 is a synchronous buck voltage regulator that efficiently converts higher input voltages up to 45 V to a lower 6 V output. This type of regulator, known as a switching regulator or DC-to-DC converter, offers superior efficiency compared to linear voltage regulators, particularly when there is a significant difference between the input and output voltages. The device is capable of supporting continuous output currents ranging from 2.5 A to 4 A, with the actual available output current being inversely proportional to the input and output voltages.
The regulator boasts a fixed output voltage of 6 V with a 4% accuracy rate and demonstrates a typical efficiency between 80% to 95%. This efficiency varies based on factors such as input voltage, output voltage, and load. It features a very low dropout voltage and operates at a switching frequency of approximately 700 kHz under heavy loads. To enhance light load efficiency, the regulator includes a power-save mode that reduces the switching frequency. Additionally, it has a low quiescent current.
