The Sherline CNC Linear Controller X/Y-Axis Upgrade (Metric) is designed to enhance the functionality of manual milling machines or lathes by converting the X- or Y-axis for use with a CNC linear controller. This upgrade includes a CNC linear controller and all necessary components to facilitate the transition from manual to CNC operation. The controller is equipped with a stepper motor mount, making it suitable for machines that are not CNC-ready. It is a stand-alone unit that can be programmed directly from its keypad, allowing for precise control over the stepper motor's functions. The stepper motor can be mounted on the crosslide of a Sherline lathe or the X- or Y-axis of a Sherline mill.

The system supports connectivity through an 8-pin mini-DIN cable, enabling multiple units to be linked in a "daisy chain" configuration. This feature allows the units to communicate and operate sequentially, facilitating complex movements without the need for a computer or master CNC controller. Additionally, the controller can be integrated with existing CNC systems. Users can program two separate sequences, each comprising up to 40 operations, with control over parameters such as distance, direction, speed, and program flow.

Furthermore, the linear controller can be combined with Sherline’s rotary controller to synchronize rotary and linear movements, which is particularly useful for intricate tasks like gear cutting. This setup simplifies the process, requiring only basic input through the keypad, eliminating the need for advanced CNC programming knowledge.
