Description

  • DC Gearmotor
  • Nominal Voltage: 6V
  • No Load RPM: 78
  • Stall Current: 0.7A
  • Stall Torque: 76.38 oz-in
  • Shaft Diameter: 4.83 mm

The Solarbotics GM9 Gear Motor is much like the GM3 - Gear Motor 3 - 90 degree Shaft but runs at nearly twice the speed. This gear motor goes 78RPM at 6V, drawing 700mA at stall generating 76.38 oz-in torque (free running at 52mA). With a double-flat output shaft (there is no output on the other side), a built-in clutch and built-in mounting screw holes, you can see why we like these motors! These fit perfectly with GMPW and GMW plastic wheels.

GM9 - Gear Motors are compatible with the Solarbotics Wheel Watcher Rotation Encoder. Use it if you need to control a robot for dead reckoning, tracking odometry (distance traveled), stalled motor, or closing the feedback loop for position/velocity/acceleration.

OK, but loud for a worm gear motor

This motor is powerful enough, but I assumed it was a worm gear drive because of the 90 degree gear box. If it is, then it's a lot noisier under load than I would have expected. I also bought the wheel kit and bracket. The washer that comes with the wheel is too small and in my application, I wanted to mount the wheel with the collar facing inward so I had to drill a recess in the wheel hub for a washer since there is only a recess on one side of the wheel. All in all, the motor does what it should.

Exactly as specified

This motor and gearbox was exactly as I had expected and described. Very pleased with Robotshop on this my first order. Just put in another order for similar product. Based on this order, I was able to make the second with complete confidence.

Good for our Modkit /Arduino Activity

We used these as an input for a Modkit/Arduino activity for physical programming to run cam mechanisms. They were great, sturdy and dependable. The only issue was that the extra care had to be taken because the connectors are very fragile. We used heatshrink around the solderpoints and then secured the wires around the body so that the stress on the connectors was minimized. This was a very good solution.
