The Devantech SRF02 Low cost Ultrasonic Range Finder is the lowest cost ultrasonic ranger with both I2C and Serial interfaces. This Sonar module can identify obstacles, 15cm to 6m, and can easily be connected to a microcontroller. Built by Devantech, this ultra-sonic ranger will soon become essential for your robotic applications. The new AutoTune algorithms intelligently back the minimum range right up to the transducer ringdown for the very best performance possible, automatically, in the background, and with no calibration cycles necessary. Additional new commands allow for separate burst and ranging control.

Easy connection to USB host with the Devantech USB to I2C Interface Module, seen below (Sold separately). Self powered from the USB bus.

Note: The documentation includes the read/write bit when it talks about I2C addresses. Some systems, such as Arduino, handle that bit separately, so the address that should be used is half the value specified in the documentation. For example, the default address is 0x70 when used with Arduino.

Not great for angled targets

If the target is perfectly perpendicular to the sensor the SRF works okay. If the target is just a little angled then the readings are way off even at close range.

Useful Rangefinder

Used as a height detector, worked very well. Have found they are very sensitive to supply voltage, we have had to buy a few replacements for blown ones.

good but only 5V

Works according to description, but jokes on me because i needed it to operate on 3v3 and that didn't work.
