The Unitree R1 EDU Pro B (U4) Humanoid Robot is a full-size bipedal research platform developed by Unitree Robotics, designed for advanced manipulation research and embodied AI development. It operates across laboratory and research environments where contact-rich interaction and haptic data collection are central requirements. Compared to the U3 configuration, the U4 variant integrates tactile sensing across both dexterous hands, making it the higher-capability tier within the R1 EDU Pro B line. With 40 actuated degrees of freedom distributed across its legs, waist, arms, and hands, it is built to support complex whole-body motion tasks in structured research settings.
The robot's perception and response capabilities extend beyond vision, incorporating a full spatial audio array and binocular depth camera module system that together support environment awareness and human interaction scenarios. Its onboard AI computing module delivers substantial inference performance, enabling real-time policy execution and learning-from-demonstration workflows without offloading to external hardware. The open tactile sensor interfaces allow synchronized joint and haptic data streaming through standard robotics middleware, making it straightforward to integrate into imitation learning and reinforcement learning pipelines. With hot-swap battery support and approximately one hour of runtime, the system accommodates extended research sessions with minimal downtime. Designed to serve robotics research institutions, university labs, and advanced education programs, it provides the hardware foundation needed to study contact-aware manipulation, in-hand reorientation, and haptic-guided grasping at a professional research level.

Capabilities
Key capabilities of the Unitree R1 EDU Pro B (U4) for haptic research, dexterous manipulation, and embodied AI development.
Haptic Perception
33 tactile sensors per Dex3 hand provide real-time contact feedback during grasping and manipulation. Enables force-sensitive AI model training with rich contact data.
Dexterous Manipulation
Two Dex3 hands (7 DOF each, 33 tactile sensors per hand) support finger-level manipulation with force sensing. Ideal for teleoperation-based data collection.
Developer Platform
SDK2, ROS 2 MoveIt2, and Isaac Sim with open tactile sensor interfaces enable learning-from-demonstration and reinforcement learning research with synchronized joint and haptic data.
Research & Education
The U4 adds tactile sensing over the U3 configuration, making it the tier of choice for studying contact-rich manipulation, in-hand reorientation, and haptic-guided grasping.
Use Cases & Application Scenarios
Real-world research and educational applications enabled by the R1 EDU Pro B (U4) haptic humanoid platform.
Autonomous Facility Patrol
Its binocular depth camera module continuously scans the environment, making it effective for security rounds, anomaly detection, and access monitoring across warehouses, campuses, and commercial buildings. Dex3 hands with 33 tactile sensors per hand allow it to physically engage with controls and surfaces during patrol.
Industrial Site Monitoring
Equipped with a binocular camera and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, the R1 can navigate industrial environments to monitor equipment, check gauges, and relay live visual data to a control center. Its 2 kg per-arm carry capacity allows it to transport inspection tools or light supplies between stations. 33 tactile sensors per Dex3 hand add real contact feedback to tool handling and equipment inspection.
Reception and Customer Interaction
The R1's built-in 4-mic array, speaker, and multimodal voice and vision AI allow it to greet visitors, answer common questions, and guide people through a space. It is immediately deployable as a lobby greeter, retail floor assistant, or exhibition presence without any custom programming. Tactile Dex3 hands enable natural handshakes and object exchanges with every visitor.
Education and Live Demonstrations
Standing 123 cm tall with 40 degrees of freedom, the R1 makes a compelling subject for classroom robotics education and live demonstrations at trade shows or corporate events. Natural bipedal movement and voice interaction bring humanoid robotics to life for any audience. 33-sensor tactile Dex3 hands add a haptic dimension that lets students experience real-time contact sensing live.

Return Conditions
To qualify for a refund under the 30-day return policy, all of the following conditions must be met:
A valid Return Authorization (RA) number must be obtained prior to returning the product. Returns without an RA number will be refused.
The RA number is valid for 30 days. The returned item must be received within that period.
The RA number must be included with the return.
Products must be returned in unused, unmodified condition (e.g., no scratches, alterations, missing parts, or signs of installation/use) and in their original packaging, suitable for resale.
Shipping fees are non-refundable. Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer, except in cases of a product confirmed defective through RobotShop's troubleshooting process or of a verified shipping error by RobotShop.
Refunds are processed within 7 days after receipt and inspection of the returned item.
A $100 cleaning fee may apply to domestic robots returned in used or unclean condition.
A 20% restocking fee may apply to large-quantity returns of items ordered specifically for the customer from the manufacturer or not part of RobotShop's standard inventory.
